This place is special in a way that few places can claim to be special. The West Coast Game park bills itself as the world’s largest petting zoo.
Without a doubt, they have a lot of the usual petting zoo fare. There are plenty of sheep and goats milling around looking for some attention and food.
This goat was really aggressive. I actually had to play dodge with him before he would let me pass. The animals know what you have food.
After the initial onslaught of lambs and goats, the West Coast Game Park went way beyond anything I was expecting in a petting zoo.
That’s right. They have put together a really impressive collection of big cats. And this leads to the inevitable question, “Is that the right thing to do?” In a perfect world, this lion would be on the Serengeti hunting gazelle. However, we all know that this isn’t a perfect world and if it weren’t for the exposure and education that places like the West Coast Game Park provide, animals in the wild would have even less of a chance than they already do.
The game park allows visitors a unique chance to pet one of these miracles. This is a lioness cub. Even though she was only a few weeks old, she seemed more powerful that most common domestic dogs.
Without any hesitation, put this on the short list of “must dos” if you ever make the trip down the Oregon Coast.
