Writing can be tough on the constitution. Sitting at a computer poking away at a keyboard has not been the best thing I've ever done for myself physically. I addition to that, for me physical activity can be meditative. I sweat, I breathe deep, and my mind gets to go wandering.
I can be incredibly disciplined when training, but at a certain point, I will get bored. Once I get bored, I make it really easy for myself to back down and fall back into a rut where I eat what I want and make excuses.
Today, took my kettle bell for a walk. It's an exercise routine I made up for myself a few years back. The inspiration for it comes from a man by the name of Cameron Hanes. He's a bow hunter who has to be able to carry whatever he kills out of the wilderness. He has a workout where he carries a 135 pound rock up the side of the mountain. By the time he reaches the top, he has climbed 1000 feet in elevation.
That's a little extreme for me. I'm just trying to make myself sweat and get a little stronger. I'm not trying to carry a deer quarter back home. I have a 35 pound kettle bell I picked up from Onnit. I have a serious love/hate relationship with this thing. I throw it on my shoulder and take it for a hike.
I'm lucky enough to live right next to a canyon that has a couple nice, winding trails. Taking this thing for a stroll is a beast, but it's anything but boring.
